Innovation for Whirlpool Corporation started on Day 1 – in 1911, on the shore of southwest Michigan, with the invention of the first electric wringer washer. As Whirlpool Corporation’s vision of improving life at home has become more global, so has the company’s approach to designing, engineering and building the home appliances consumers around the world count on every day.

Technological advancements and ever-changing lifestyles are continuously reshaping our daily routines, and the strong innovation culture developed within Whirlpool’s 56 major manufacturing and technology centers leads to strong global collaboration that produces products, like our large capacity 3rd rack dishwashers, that seamlessly integrate into consumers’ lives and allow them to get more time back for the things that matter most.

Establishing a dynamic, innovation-focused culture unfolds through purposeful initiatives, collaborative ideation, and the practical application of engineering and new technologies targeting new features and advancements.

This culture of innovation was on display in the recently concluded Global Innovation Challenge, hosted at the company’s Global Technology and Engineering Center (GTEC) in Pune, India.

“Innovation is a cornerstone of our company’s legacy, serving as a driving force behind our constant pursuit of improving life at home for our consumers around the world,” said Roberto Campos, Whirlpool Corporation executive vice president for the company’s Global Product Organization and strategic sourcing.

Whirlpool Corporation conducts these Global Innovation Challenges every year as a way of fostering global cross-functional collaboration and a true of One Whirlpool. Engineers, designers, marketing experts, and other experts worldwide collaborate closely to pool their expertise, resulting in holistic and well-rounded solutions. This cross-functional approach generates innovative ideas and strengthens internal relationships and knowledge sharing.

Each year we see a step up in the level of ideas and functional proof concepts critically evaluated on stringent criteria enabling the possibility of adoption in new programs and products.

“GTEC is a hub where each year the Innovation Challenge brings together global teams and diverse technology experts,” said Radhakrishnan Kodakkal, vice president and head of GTEC India. “This collaborative exercise sparks a dynamic exchange of ideas, fueling the creation of innovative features and products that resonate with our consumers.”

The Global Innovation Challenge is a testament to the diversity of thought and talent found here at Whirlpool Corporation. The next generation of Whirlpool Corporation appliances could include many of the ideas brought forth at this event. Our innovations, like the new Maytag Pet Pro System, focus on purposeful enhancements that truly make a difference and improve life at home for our consumers.
