At Whirlpool Corporation, internships have always been more than just a bullet point on a resume. Focused on adding business value, impactful projects are at the center of the Whirlpool internship experience. This year is no different, except that the majority of U.S. internships will be completely virtual for the second year in a row.

Following a fully virtual recruiting season, Whirlpool Corporation has again adjusted the summer internship to meet the new reality. As a result, the 12-week internship program will be a remote experience for all interns, with the exception of the Manufacturing Leadership Development Program. With 93 interns representing 24 different U.S. states starting on May 24, Whirlpool Corp. is determined to provide a meaningful 2021 internship experience. Interns will be working across all company functions, including Human Resources, Engineering, and Marketing.

You gain firsthand experiences and your decisions directly impact the company. The culture and purpose within the company is something that is unrivaled in my prior personal experiences.”

“This year, we’ve had the opportunity to be more intentional with our engagement activities, functional programming, and project selection,” says Norimi Wilkins, Whirlpool Corporation Early Career Development program manager. “As a remote team, we’ve learned so much about how to connect and collaborate virtually in the past year. This knowledge will undoubtedly set us up for success this summer.”

The internship curriculum is extensive and includes a four-day orientation experience, professional development sessions, networking with senior leaders, and exciting virtual engagement events such as Workout Wednesday, cooking demonstrations, and game nights. These activities will expose interns to Whirlpool Corporation’s core values, products, brands, and more.

Also part of the summer internship: a weekly newsletter titled Loads of News, detailed intern People Leader training, and peer buddies. “In an effort to bridge the virtual gap, we’ve placed a strong emphasis on communication, connection, and relationship-building,” says Wilkins.

“During my internship search, it was very important for me to join a company that I knew would want to help me learn and grow,” says Alena Black, who will be a senior at Brigham Young University in the fall. “Whirlpool offered all that I wanted in an internship—a brand marketing experience and a community that cares.” Black will be working from her home in Provo, Utah, working as a Brand Immersion intern.

Scott Clay will be joining Whirlpool for the second year in a row. “Being a Whirlpool intern has helped challenge me to think in new ways I had never thought of before and research/test out new ideas,” says Clay. “You gain firsthand experiences and your decisions directly impact the company. The culture and purpose within the company is something that is unrivaled in my prior personal experiences.” Clay will be working from Buffalo Grove, Illinois as a Human Resources intern.
