Whirlpool Corporation and Habitat for Humanity have collaborated since 1999 to help build and improve homes, lives and communities across the U.S. and approximately 50 countries around the world.

In our 25 year relationship, Whirlpool Corp. has donated more than $150 million to Habitat including more than 250,000 products globally to Habitat for Humanity families. Through financial support, appliance donations, volunteer engagement, disaster response, advocacy, support of Habitat’s Carter Work Project, and the BuildBetter with Whirlpool program, more than 1 million people have been positively impacted in the U.S. and around the world.

BuildBetter with Whirlpool

Environmental changes disproportionately impact under-served communities due to their locations, access to resources and services, and decision-making power*. Launched in 2021, Habitat for Humanity's BuildBetter with Whirlpool initiative was designed to support the construction of climate-resilient, energy-efficient homes, and to scale and implement best practices across the U.S. This program expands on Habitat’s efforts to help homeowners mitigate the impacts of climate change with more energy-efficient and resilient homes. Energy-use habits and utility data are captured in the homes, and preliminary results show that affordable homes built with climate resilience in mind can protect the planet and reduce the cost to Habitat homeowners.

Following the success of the program between 2021 and 2024, Whirlpool Foundation renewed support to expand our investment in efficient housing solutions through 2026.

As part of BuildBetter with Whirlpool, Habitat for Humanity is conducting a formal evaluation of the homes in collaboration with Auburn University. For the evaluation, Auburn researchers compare energy-use habits and utility data to average U.S. homes, as well as national residential energy consumption data. The findings are expected to be published in 2026.

Product Donations

Whirlpool Corporation supports every Habitat for Humanity home built in the U.S. and Canada by providing a range, refrigerator and garbage disposal. Globally, we also supply appliances for builds supported by employee volunteers. Donated products help homeowners save money by:

• Saving on major home appliance purchases

• Saving on food expenses by reducing the need to eat out often driven by inadequate appliances

• Lowering utility costs with new, energy-efficient appliances
