Whirlpool Corporation welcomes new Global Information Security Officer, Juan Gomez-Sanchez
Juan Gomez-Sanchez joins Whirlpool Corporation with more than 27 years of experience in information security, including roles at Delta Airlines, CheckFree Corporation (now Fiserv), and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. Most recently, Gomez-Sanchez served as Chief Security Officer at Lennar Corporation, where his responsibilities encompassed all physical and information security initiatives in support of four lines of business and 9,000 associates.
Whirlpool Corporation is a great global company to work for with a great culture, and I’m excited to have a part in producing the impressive portfolio of products we have, and to embed security as a dimension of quality, which is what our consumers expect—now more than ever before.”
“It has become ever more important to understand cybersecurity, crisis management, physical security, and how all of that relates back to the business, so we can perform security at the speed of business,” said Gomez-Sanchez. “That’s my function; to figure out how to mature security capabilities and work with the team and the organization to elevate our capabilities and function.”
“We look forward to Juan and his team driving our global security posture in this very important area,” said Dani Brown, Whirlpool Corporation’s chief information officer. “It’s important to every aspect of our company vision to be the best kitchen and laundry company, in constant pursuit of improving life at home.”
Gomez-Sanchez says that his work is really about understanding the business, and then applying what is learned to manage security risk.
“Once we understand the business, then we can make sound and educated decisions as to where we spend our valuable resources,” he said. “Over my 27 years of experience, that typically is where security succeeds—in better understanding the business posture and applying the right amount of security controls, which could be technical or otherwise.”
