Sustainable Products and Operations

Improving life at home.

feature-talent

Fulfilling our vision to be the best kitchen and laundry company, in constant pursuit of improving life at home requires us to think of our house and home not just in terms of the four walls around us and the communities in which we live, but of the planet that sustains us.

This has been the Whirlpool way for 115 years. As our former CEO Elisha Gray II said in his letter addressed to our shareholders in 1969, which led to the establishment of our Office of Environment in 1970: “We cannot separate our business from the communities in which we operate, and hope to grow and prosper.”

We are taking a long-term view. We’re designing products for sustainability and making the changes we need in our operations and supply chain for our production to be more sustainable.

Our Plants and Operations

Through strategic investments and strong facilities management systems, we continue to make our manufacturing and distribution network stronger, delivering best-in-class, global operational excellence.

Our “We Care” operating framework establishes commitments for employees at every Whirlpool facility and our World Class Manufacturing (WCM) methodology serves as the operational system for improving safety, productivity and quality. WCM supports environmental sustainability by focusing on reducing waste and losses within production systems.

Emissions Reduction

In 2025, we updated our near-term emissions reduction targets and established a new long-term target to accelerate progress and align with the latest guidelines. The updated targets establish a new 2021 base year to reflect our evolving business footprint and were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Near-Term Targets (2030)
Scope 1, 2 and 3 Goals from 2021 base year
Reduce operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 65%
Reduce emissions from the use of our products (Scope 3, Category 11) by 25%

Long-Term Targets (2050) — Concurrently, we established a long-term net-zero target committing to reach net-zero by 2050 through a 90% absolute reduction across our value chain.
