Whirlpool Corporation’s culture of responsibility uses a holistic approach to assist organizations that strive to improve that basic human need of health and wellness for citizens and community alike. Individuals with access to the health and wellness support they need are best able to invest in themselves to be a part of a growing community.
Once the foundation of meeting the needs for health and wellness is firmly in place, we focus on safe and affordable housing. Housing creates a safe environment conducive to learning that results in young people with better tools to succeed and become a vital part of a community that gives back.

Support health care and healthy lifestyles for our communities and their citizens.

Forms of Support
Our support can be felt through our donations and sponsorships, our product donations and through the giving spirit of our employees.
Decisions for support are based on merit, alignment to our giving strategy, relevance to our corporate policies and available resources.
Please note: Only charitable organizations located within 30 miles of our major facilities are considered for donations at this time.
Charitable giving: Cash donations and sponsorships will be offered when funding is available
In-kind donations: Product donations may be offered for use as well as fundraising activities
Employee volunteering: Our employees volunteer their time and expertise through traditional, skilled and leadership opportunities
What started as a Community Day in our Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters in Milan, Italy in 2017, grew to more than 500 employees volunteering 4,000 hours in 10 countries across the region.
Later this year, the United States will join this corporate day of action to grow the outreach even further and provide employees with opportunities to make a difference in the communities that they call home.

Habitat for Humanity
Whirlpool Corporation and Habitat for Humanity International are celebrating 20 years of collaboration in 2019.
Since 1999, Whirlpool Corporation has supported Habitat’s work to build affordable homes and communities with families in need of a decent place to live around the world.
To date, Whirlpool Corporation has supported Habitat programs in 45 countries with a commitment of $107 million; donated and installed approximately 197,300 ranges and refrigerators in new Habitat homes in the U.S. and Canada serving more than 104,000 families; sponsored nearly 190 homes and donated products to 76,000 Habitat families in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; and engaged thousands of employee volunteers to participate in Habitat builds alongside future homeowners.

Sons & Daughters Scholarships
Each year, the Whirlpool Foundation recognizes and rewards children of employees across the United States for their academic and personal achievements, leadership and community involvement.
To provide support for the sons and daughters of our employees is and honor. Whirlpool takes great pride in supporting the sons and daughters of our employees with this scholarship program. This is a 68-year tradition, established by our company’s founders that best embodies the collective spirit of all our employees, past and present to help future generations of leaders be successful.
More than 100 Whirlpool Foundation Sons & Daughters scholarship and award recipients are presently attending colleges and universities across the nation.
We partner with United Way across the U.S. to fund thousands of organizations and causes within our communities that focus on education, income, health and basic needs. Our current and retired employees participate every year in raising funds for local United Way campaigns in their respective locations. The Whirlpool Foundation offers a dollar-for-dollar match on contributions made to these campaigns.

Maytag Dependable Leader Awards
In 2010, Maytag brand teamed up with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) as a commitment to youth and communities. The partnership seeks to recognize and promote dependability—a core quality for both. From this partnership, the Maytag Dependable Leader Awards were created. These awards support the Clubs helping young people succeed for life. To date, Maytag brand has awarded more than 100 awards, donating more than $8.4 million to help enable 100,000 club youth most in need to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Whirlpool employees also get involved. More than 6,000 employees volunteer their time with clubs across the U.S.

Employees at Whirlpool Corporation like to give back to their communities and to the people who live there. So much so that in 2018 alone, enough blood was donated to save more than 3,500 lives.
Blood drives take place in all of our major facilities and employees wear their donor badges with great pride.
When national and global disasters occur, the people at Whirlpool are among the first to respond and extend their support.
Whirlpool supports American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and United Way disaster relief efforts for both immediate and long-term rebuilding.
Tide Loads of Hope
Whirlpool is proud to be a part of the Tide Loads of Hope community outreach program. Through this program, we help provide hundreds of families in need with washed, dried and folded laundry, which can make all the difference when faced with disaster situations.
Providing appliances for this mobile laundromat is just one way we support those in need during times of crisis.
Homes For Our Troops
Whirlpool Corporation is proud to support Homes for our Troops through appliances, donations and volunteerism.
Homes for our Troops is dedicated to building and donating specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-911 veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives.

Whirlpool is proud to provide appliances for American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodges in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Each Hope Lodge offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when their best hope for effective treatment may be in another city. Not having to worry about where to stay or how to pay for lodging allows guests to focus on getting better.
Hope Lodge provides a nurturing, home-like environment where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others. Every Hope Lodge also offers a variety of resources and information about cancer and how best to fight the disease.

American Red Cross Military Support
Whirlpool’s facility in Knoxville, TN supports American Red Cross’ military and veteran programs with greeting cards throughout the year…
4,500 holiday cards were created/donated in 2018 which were distributed to veterans and military families.
University of Iowa Children’s Hospital
For 10 years and counting, our Amana Operations Facility hosts a special fundraiser each year to support the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Each year, proceeds from the event provide 1,000 eye exams through the hospital’s Kidsight Program.

Ronald McDonald House Charities
For 10 years and counting, our Amana Operations Facility hosts a special fundraiser each year to support The Ronald McDonald House of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois.
They serve families of seriously ill or injured children who must travel to get specialized treatment. By providing the comfort and amenities that these families need while their child receives treatment, they can focus on recovery.

Throughout most of the 20th century the area now known as Harbor Shores was a center for manufacturing, serving as the economic hub of the region and neighbor of Whirlpool Corporation headquarters. In the mid-1980’s, during a severe economic downturn that devastated manufacturing in the Midwest, more than 6,000 jobs were lost in an 18-month period. The land became littered with dilapidated buildings and served as a dumping ground for old sludge and other waste.
Through the work of Whirlpool Foundation and various community groups, it was determined a golf course and residential community could bring dollars back into the area. Over 3 million square feet of dilapidated buildings were demolished and over 150,000 tons of waste material was removed from various sites on the property. This is equivalent to a football field 70 feet high.
Harbor Shores is now a not-for-profit development with a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, residential development and 12 miles of walking trails. Truly a unique development, Harbor Shores is also a proud partner of The First Tee of Benton Harbor, an organization that promotes character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
More than half a century ago, Louis and Frederick Upton, two of Whirlpool Corporation’s founders, established Whirlpool Foundation and made a commitment – a promise – to reinvest in the community. Their intent was to provide financial leadership support for nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities where Whirlpool operated.
Whirlpool Foundation will keep that decades-old promise, using new and innovative ways to make lasting impact on society, with an emphasis on our home communities.
In addition of our formal programs, Whirlpool Foundation will focus on addressing community issues through partnerships and collaboration to better leverage resources and broaden the impact of change and improvement.
