With dozens of empty cardboard boxes in the corner of the warehouse, Gail Nuechterlein had one thing in mind.
How can she help?
Nuechterlein was among the 40 volunteers Thursday who spent a couple hours at the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency’s warehouse in downtown Benton Harbor.
In December, SMCAA is expected to provide about 2,600 boxes of food to low-income seniors and families. Volunteers were there to help pack these boxes with non-perishable food items for distribution.
The majority of the volunteers were members of the Whirlpool Women’s Network, who have made it an annual event to spend time helping SMCAA – which is known for providing food and emergency assistance in the tri-county area.
