Whirlpool Corp. and Cornerstone Alliance are seeking St. Joseph’s approval of a tax incentive for a $35 million investment in Whirlpool’s Technology Center on Upton Drive.
The presentation was made Monday by Jeff Noel, Whirlpool’s vice president for communications and public affairs; Lee Utke, Whirlpool senior director for global corporate real estate; and Rob Cleveland, president of Cornerstone Alliance, the economic development agency.
The organizations are asking for the creation of a commercial rehabilitation district for three Whirlpool parcels. After the meeting, Cleveland explained that the designation, if approved, would freeze the taxable value of the property following the upgrades.
