I could not even walk into work without stopping three times to get to my work station. Now I’ve lost 95 pounds, eat right and exercise daily.
After quitting smoking two years ago, my weight got out of control. I had issues with everyday activities and could not breathe. My doctor diagnosed me with severe COPD, polycythemia, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. I was supposed to be on oxygen 24 hours a day. I was told that I should look into retiring from work and I did not want to.
On February 2, 2015, a co-worker helped me realize I did not have to live the rest of my life like this. With help from my wife, I started cooking healthier and eating better. I started a low carb diet combined with ten minutes of exercise each day. I had already taken advantage of Whirlpool’s nicotine cessation incentive to quit smoking, so I knew there were other programs to help me in my journey.
A year later, I’ve lost 95 pounds and continue to eat right and exercise daily. I can now walk into work without stopping, I don’t have to take his blood pressure medicine, my polycythemia is under control, and I even have spare energy to play with my grandchildren. I want to be around for my family. Everyday I feel a little better and want to continue with the weight loss. My recommendation would be to get out of bad eating habits and learn how to shop for food.
I look forward to losing more weight and celebrating my 30th anniversary with Whirlpool in June.
