InSinkErator, the world’s largest manufacturer of garbage disposals and instant hot water dispensers for home and commercial use, has been in the business of providing instant hot (near boiling) water tanks and dispensers to residential and commercial customers for many decades. The Instant Warm Handwash System is just the latest in a long line of innovation from Racine, Wisconsin-based InSinkErator.
The InSinkErator Commercial Products team is focused on driving labor productivity and sustainability for food service operators to ultimately save them time, water, and money.”
The idea behind this innovation came to be after a customer visit with a national chain restaurant illustrated how difficult it was to get warm, 100-degree water throughout the commercial kitchen on demand. This is especially important for the employee sinks where the FDA and ServSafe recommend employees wash their hands at 100 degrees to properly remove fats, oils, and greases. Not only that, but health inspectors regularly perform a time-to-temp check for 100-degree water. This pain point was further validated with other restaurant chains via market research and through a CDC study that revealed only 27% of employees wash their hands correctly. This failure to wash correctly is a potential cause for ~48M foodborne illness cases in the U.S.
“We identified a major opportunity to penetrate the large commercial kitchen marketplace through a major redesign of our instant hot water tanks to deliver immediate 100-degree water and the development of a high-quality touchless food service faucet,” said David Krems, InSinkErator Commercial Products and Customer Care leader.
The InSinkErator Instant Warm Handwash System is a one-of-a-kind solution. While kitchen designers can find numerous ways to get hot water to various areas of the kitchen, the InSinkErator solution is the only all-in-one system inclusive of a touch-free faucet and point-of-use hot water tank.
In addition to the all-in-one benefit, InSinkErator developed a patented universal mount faucet that fits into any standard sink. This design allows the system to be installed in existing kitchens and sinks regardless of the type of faucet needed. The InSinkErator unit is also hardwired into the electrical to avoid having to use and replace battery-powered faucets – which can go unattended for days once a battery dies.
Krems added, “The InSinkErator Commercial Products team is focused on driving labor productivity and sustainability for food service operators to ultimately save them time, water, and money.”
